Transcendant Tree

They took away my Christmas tree,
  The traffic it had faced
By the curb and near the street
  Is where it had been placed.

No ornaments adorned it still,
  The tinsel blew away,
All the gifts beneath it gone;
  Today was its last day.

Once in glory it had stood
  Where the stairway ends;
All a glow, when lights were low,
  Viewed by all my friends.

Like all of us someday will find
  It’s purpose at an end;
Its usefulness depleted
  Then from this world transcend.
